Arrest Made in Sterling Wells Road Double Homicide in Thomson
Thomson, GA (August 20, 2018) – The GBI and McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office have arrested Chet Kent, 39, of Thomson for the murders of Kenyetta Germany and Cheri Stone. Kent is charged with two counts of Murder, one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Kent is currently being detained in the McDuffie County Jail. Kent has been incarcerated for the last several months on unrelated charges in Thomas County, Georgia. Kent was transferred to the McDuffie County Jail earlier today.
On Tuesday, March 13, 2018, the Georgia State Patrol responded to a crash scene on Sterling Wells Road in Thomson where the vehicle occupied by Germany and Stone had exited the roadway and struck a tree. Upon the arrival of GSP Troopers, it was learned that both Germany and Stone were deceased.
Germany and Stone were transported to the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur, Georgia for autopsies which took place on Wednesday, March 14, 2018. Preliminary autopsy results revealed that both Germany and Stone died as a result of gunshot wounds and the manner of death is being ruled as homicide.
The investigation is ongoing.
