Update: GBI Takes Warrants in Tift County Convenience Store Murder

On Wednesday, August 22, 2018, Caleb Day was arrested in Adel, Cook County and booked in to the Cook County Jail. He will be transported to the Tift County Jail.

August 20, 2018 Update
On Monday, August 20, 2018, Alexis McCrary turned herself in to the Tift County Jail. Caleb Day remains at large.

Tift County, GA (August 16, 2018) – On August 16, 2018, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) took warrants on the following individuals for the murder of Akhtar Perveez, age 55:
Caleb Day, age 21 – Armed Robbery and Felony Murder
Nathaniel Day, age 21 – Armed Robbery and Party to the Crime of Felony Murder (Nathaniel Day is currently incarcerated at the Ben Hill County Jail on an unrelated charge of Armed Robbery).
Alexis Naomi McCrary, age 21 – Armed Robbery and Party to the Crime of Felony Murder
On Monday, July 30, 2018, at approximately 3:25 PM, the Tift County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI to assist in a death investigation at the Eldorado Food Mart on Highway 41 in Tift County where Perveez, store owner, was killed during a robbery. A GBI Medical Examiner ruled his death a homicide by gunshot wound.
Investigators followed leads obtained during this investigation that led them to Caleb Day, Nathaniel Day, and Alexis McCrary. Caleb Day and Alexis McCrary remain at large. This joint investigation remains active and ongoing.
