GBI Investigates Forsyth County Officer Involved Shooting
Cumming, GA (June 20, 2018) - On Tuesday, June 19, 2018, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office to conduct an officer involved shooting investigation in the area of Carbonne Court in Cumming, Georgia.
Preliminary information indicates that shortly before 10:00 PM, a 911 call was made to the Forsyth County 911 Center. Deputies were dispatched to a domestic dispute at a residence on Carbonne Court. Upon arrival, officers determined that a physical altercation occurred between the female caller and the male subject, identified as Charles Spillers, age 65, of Cumming. As officers entered the residence, deputies encountered Spillers brandishing a gun. An officer fired at Spillers, striking him multiple times. As a result of his injuries, he died at the scene.
An autopsy will be performed by the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Decatur, DeKalb County, Georgia.
Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be provided to the Bell-Forsyth Judicial Circuit for review.
