GBI Investigates Clayton County Police Department Officer Involved Shooting
Forest Park, GA - On Sunday, May 13, 2018, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was requested by the Clayton County Police Department to investigate an officer involved shooting.
At approximately 12:46 p.m., a Clayton County Police Department officer, working an off-duty job, responded to a “person shot” call at El Dixie Plaza located at 5863 Old Dixie Highway in Forest Park. Near the scene, the officer was informed by an individual that a man was shooting at him. The officer made contact with a hispanic male who subsequently fired at the officer. The officer returned fire, stricking the subject. The subject was transported to Southern Regional Medical Center where he died from his injuries. The officer was not injured. No other individuals were injured during the incident.
The subject has not been positiviely identified at this time.
The GBI will continue its independant investigation. When completed, the case will be turned over to the District Attorney of the Clayton Judicial Circuit for review.
