GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting on Doane Street in Atlanta
Atlanta, GA – On Friday, February 9, 2018, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was requested by the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) to investigate an officer involved shooting.
At approximately 2:20 p.m., officers with the Atlanta Police Department (APD) located a stolen vehicle. APD requested assistance from the GSP in conducting a traffic stop on the vehicle. A GSP trooper attempted to pull the vehicle over by initiating his blue lights and siren. The driver failed to stop. The trooper then performed a vehicle stopping technique on Doane Street. The driver again did not stop and while attempting to flee, struck an APD patrol car. During the attempted stop on Doane Street, the trooper discharged his weapon striking the driver.
The driver was identified as David Darden, age 36, of Atlanta. An autopsy was performed by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The GBI will continue its independent investigation. Once completed, the case will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
