GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Atlanta, GA
Atlanta, GA (December 12, 2017) – On Tuesday, December 12, 2017, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was requested by the Atlanta Public Schools Police Department (APSPD) to investigate an officer involved shooting.
Preliminary information provided by APSPD indicates that at approximately 9:15 AM, an armed man approached the Forrest Hill Academy located at 2930 Forrest Hills Drive, Atlanta, Fulton County, GA. The armed man left the school property and started to walk down Forrest Hills Drive towards Cleveland Avenue. Two APSPD officers approached the man who was still holding a weapon. One of the officers fired one round at the subject. The subject was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he is in stable condition.
No officers were injured during the incident. All students and staff are safe and school operations were not disrupted.
It was later determined during the crime scene examination that the subject’s weapon was a BB gun (picture attached). It has yet to be determined why the subject was at the school.
The GBI will continue its independent investigation. Once completed, the case will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
