GBI Investigates Body Found in Yellow River in Porterdale
Porterdale, Georgia – On Sunday, November 12, 2017, at approximately 2:30 p.m., the Porterdale Police Department was notified that a body was found submerged in the Yellow River near the dam. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Porterdale Police Department to assist with the death investigation.
Autopsy results identified the body as Ryan Hacker, 40. On Friday, November 3, 2017, Hacker had been the subject of an officer involved use of force incident during a traffic stop. At approximately 10:30 p.m., Hacker was stopped by Officer Matthew Munger for driving on a suspended license. During the incident, Hacker refused to comply with the officer’s commands. The officer deployed his taser, but Hacker ran from the scene in the direction of the Yellow River and was not apprehended.
The autopsy found no injuries to Hacker. Cause of death is pending toxicologic and histologic examination.
The case, when completed, will be turned over to the Alcovy Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office.
