GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Greene County, GA
Woodville, Georgia – On Friday, August 25, 2017, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) to investigate an officer involved shooting occurring near the intersection of Highway 77 and Penfield Road in Woodville, Greene County, Georgia.
Preliminary information indicates that a Greene County deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle being operated by Charles David Robinson, age 47. Robinson fled the scene on foot and the deputy pursued him on foot as well. An altercation occurred between the deputy and Robinson. During the altercation, the deputy shot Robinson. Robinson was transported to the St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital where he was pronounced deceased upon arrival. An autopsy will be performed by the GBI’s Medical Examiner’s Office in Decatur.
The deputy was transported to an Athens hospital for treatment and was later released.
The GBI will continue its independent investigation to determine what occurred during the incident. When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Greene County District Attorney's Office for review.
