Operation Clean House
Statement by GBI Director Vernon Keenan at today's new conference on Operation Clean House:
Earlier today, GBI agents, along with HUD Special Agents and local law enforcement, began serving arrest warrants for 80 individuals in 31 Georgia Counties on charges related to fraudulently obtaining federal funding for affordable housing.
This effort is known as Operation Clean House.
These arrest warrants were obtained by the GBI based on evidence uncovered by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs and HUD's Office of the Inspector General.
So far today, 54 arrests have been made.
The State of Georgia and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are pleased to be able to participate in this important operation.
A person who receives housing benefits which they are not entitled to under the law is stealing tax payers' money.
