Richmond County Homicide Investigation
Augusta, GA – On Thursday, June 15, 2017, at approximately 4:43 p.m., GBI Region 7 Office in Thomson, Georgia was requested by Richmond County Sheriff’s Office to assist with a shooting investigation involving a Richmond County Deputy Gregory Cooke, 43 years old, who was off-duty.
GBI Region 7 Office responded to the 2400 block of Lennox Road in August, Georgia and began conducting interviews reference this investigation. Preliminary investigation revealed Cooke had a verbal altercation with an individual, at which time, Cooke was shot. It was also determined Cooke was not acting as a law enforcement officer at the time of the shooting.
Cooke was transported to the Augusta University Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia where he later died during surgery.
Donelle Osborne, 18 years old, and Naheem Caldwell, 17 years old, were arrested without incident in Burke County, Georgia. Osborne and Caldwell were transported to Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and both charged with Malice Murder.
On Friday, June 16, 2017, at approximately 11:00 a.m., Stevie Dustin Caldwell, 46 years old, was arrested and charged with Tampering with Evidence and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
Cooke’s body was transported to the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur, GA where an autopsy is being performed on Friday, June 16, 2017.
Requests for booking photos of Osborne, Naheem Caldwell and Stevie Caldwell should be made to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
