Disabled Adult Neglect Investigation in Murray County, GA
Crandall, GA - On Sunday, June 11, 2017, the Murray County Sheriff’s Office requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) assist with a case involving the neglect and abuse of a disabled adult.
EMS responded to a medical emergency at 205 Mason Rd., in Crandall, GA involving a 45-year-old male who was bedridden due to medical issues. EMS found the disabled adult suffering from open wounds and active insect infestation, as well extremely poor living conditions. EMS reported the victim’s condition to the Murray County Sheriff’s Office. The victim was transported to Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton, GA where he is in intensive care.
Toxic conditions inside the residence required Murray County Investigators and GBI Agents to wear a Tyvek suit and breathing apparatus during the investigation. Law enforcement is presently working with Murray County authorities to condemn the property.
Lisa Alexander, 46, has been arrested and charged under O.C.G.A. 16-5-101 with one count of neglect of a disabled adult. This code section was part of comprehensive legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2013 and signed by Governor Nathan Deal to protect Georgia’s most vulnerable citizens. The felony charge carries a one to 20-year sentence. Alexander is also charged with O.C.G.A. 16-5-60, one count reckless conduct (misdemeanor), and O.C.G.A 16-12-4, six counts of cruelty to animals (misdemeanor).
