GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Chattooga County, GA
Chattooga County, Georgia – On Monday, April 10, 2017, the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) to investigate an officer involved shooting in Chattooga County, Georgia.
Preliminary information from Chattooga County authorities indicates that officers from the Chattanooga U.S. Marshal’s Office and the Atlanta U.S. Marshal’s Office Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force were attempting to arrest Thomas Zane Campbell, age 31, in the 3000 block of Halls Valley Road, Trion, GA. Campbell was shot during the attempt to arrest him and was life flighted to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, TN with serious injuries.
Campbell was recently convicted in Catoosa County on possession of firearm by convicted felon.
The GBI is in the early stages of this investigation. When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit for review.
