Arrest in Auburn, GA Murder Investigation
Auburn, Georgia – On Friday, March 17, 2017, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was requested by the Auburn Police Department to investigate a shooting incident that resulted in the death of Dorothy Russell, age 51, of Statham, GA.
At approximately 5:00 p.m., a 911 call reported a domestic dispute in the Ingles grocery store parking lot located at 1502 Atlanta Highway in Auburn. The first Auburn Police Department Officer on scene found Dorothy Russell had been shot while in her vehicle. Dorothy Russell died at the scene. An autopsy will be performed at the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur.
A suspect, later identified as Darrin Russell, age 50, husband of Dorothy Russell, was seen leaving the area. Darrin Russell was arrested without incident an hour after the shooting by Barrow County Sheriff's Office Deputies. Darrin Russell has been charged with one count of murder and is being held in the Barrow County Jail.
The Winder Police Department and the Statham Police Department also assisted with the investigation.
