Buford, Georgia – On Saturday, December 24, 2016, the Gwinnett County Police Department (GCPD) requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation conduct an investigation into an officer involved use of force incident.

Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 6:58 p.m., two officers with GCPD responded to a domestic disturbance call in 1400 block of Castleberry Drive in Buford.  While inside the residence, officers encountered a subject identified as Stephan Richardson, 23, with a knife. During the confrontation, officers fired their weapons striking Richardson. He was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center where he is still receiving treatment.

No officers were injured during the incident.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation to determine what occurred during the incident.  When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Gwinnett County District Attorney's Office for review.
