Murray County Mother Charged After Child Found in Cage
Chatsworth, GA. – On August 6, 2015 at approximately 11:00 am, a Murray County deputy responded to a 911 call at 530 Bahamas Drive in Chatsworth, GA in reference to a report of a child left alone. The deputy was met by an unidentified adult female and a female child. The deputy cleared the call after observing that the child had adult supervision. Later that day at approximately 3:15 pm, another 911 call was received by the same caller who provided additional information and requested the residence be investigated further. The deputy arrived and was met by WANDA REDFERN and the same female child. The deputy gained consent to enter the home and discovered two homemade cages inside the bedroom areas of the home. One of the cages was occupied by an 11 year old male child and the other cage was empty. Additional Murray County deputies and GBI agents responded along with Department of Family and Children Services personnel. The investigation is ongoing by the Murray County Sheriff’s Office and the GBI.
The mother of the children, STEPHANIE ELIZABETH STONE, was arrested and charged with Cruelty to Children in the 1st degree, False Imprisonment, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. WANDA SUE REDFERN was also arrested for Cruelty to Children in the 1st Degree and False Imprisonment. Both women remain in custody and no bond has been set at this time.
