Gwinnett County, GA (September 25, 2026) - At the request of the Gwinnett County Police Department (GCPD), GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Gwinnett County, GA. Kean Wiggins, age 35, of Albany, NY, was injured during the incident. No officers were injured.

Preliminary information indicates that at about 6:10 a.m., on September 24, 2026, the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) and the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) executed an arrest warrant at a home located in the 1900 block of Binnies Way in Buford, GA, in attempt to arrest Wiggins on an out-of-state arrest warrant for murder. During that operation, Wiggins fled the house and shot at GCSO deputies. The USMS, GCSO, and GCPD then began searching for Wiggins. At about 11:30 a.m., GCPD officers received a call that led them to an area near Freeman’s Mill Elementary School in Lawrenceville, GA, where they spotted Wiggins walking down the road with a gun in his hand. As officers approached Wiggins and gave him verbal commands, he immediately began shooting at their vehicles. Officers returned fire and Wiggins ran into an adjacent neighborhood. Officers pursued Wiggins, and the officers and Wiggins exchanged more gunfire before Wiggins was shot and taken into custody. Wiggins was taken to an area hospital where he is currently in stable condition.
