Cobb County, GA (June 6, 2026) - At the request of the Cobb County Police Department (CCPD), GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Cobb County, GA. Gregory Hill, Jr., 43, of Austell, GA, was shot and killed during the incident. No officers were injured.

Preliminary information indicates on June 5, 2026, at about 10:22 p.m., a CCPD officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a car driven by Hill. Hill sped away from the officer and crashed near the intersection of Windy Hill Road and Osborne Court. At approximately 10:24 p.m, as officers approached his car, Hill shot at the officers. Officers then fired shots toward Hill and backed away from the car. CCPD SWAT was called in for assistance as Hill remained barricaded inside of his car. CCPD attempted to negotiate with Hill for about one and a half hours until Hill displayed a gun. A CCPD officer then shot toward Hill, hitting him at least one time. Hill was pronounced dead on scene.

Hill’s body will be taken to the Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once the investigation is complete, it will be given to the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office for review.
