Cobb County, GA (May 4, 2026) - At the request of the Cobb County Police Department (CCPD), GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Cobb County, GA. William Peak, age 29, of Marietta, GA, was shot and killed during the incident. No officers were injured.

Preliminary information indicates that at about 8:30 a.m., officers responded to a home in the 3100 block of Vandiver Drive in Marietta, GA, to attempt a welfare check. Before officers were dispatched, a caller contacted CCPD requesting a welfare check for their elderly mother, whom they were unable to reach. The caller also informed CCPD that Peak, a resident of the home, was experiencing a mental health crisis. When officers arrived, Peak shouted from inside the home and ordered officers to leave the property. Officers then heard a gunshot from within the home.

CCPD SWAT later arrived at the scene and deployed a drone into the home. The drone showed a woman inside the home who appeared unresponsive and may have been injured. SWAT entered the home and found a deceased elderly woman inside. SWAT officers observed Peak moving from room to room and heard another gunshot. SWAT withdrew from the home, began to call for Peak to surrender, and deployed gas into the home. Peak remained in the home and refused to comply with officers’ commands. Peak shot at the officers from inside the home, hitting two law enforcement vehicles. Peak later appeared in a front window of the home with a gun. An officer shot Peak, causing Peak to fall to the floor. A bomb robot equipped with a camera was deployed to the window, where it showed Peak trying to stand, still holding the gun. He pointed the gun out the window and at himself multiple times before shooting himself.

Peak’s body will be taken to the Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.

The woman was later identified as Lorrie Peak, age 71, of Marietta, GA. Her body will be taken to the Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.

Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be turned over to the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office for review.
