Coweta County, GA (January 9, 2026) – At the request of the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, GBI Agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Coweta County, Georgia. Daniel Olson, age 39, of Grantville, Georgia, died in the incident. No deputies were injured.

The preliminary information indicates that on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at about 8:15 p.m., a Coweta County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted a traffic stop on an off-road vehicle. The driver, later identified as Olson, refused to stop, and the deputy chased Olson to a home on Greenfield Lane in Grantville, Georgia. Olson ran into the home and locked the door. The Deputy attempted to call Olson out of the home, but Olson refused to comply. The deputy, in an attempt to avoid escalating the situation, left the home to take arrest warrants for Olson.

At about 9:00 p.m. on January 8, 2026, a 911 caller advised that Olson had left his home with a gun. Shortly afterward, Olson, who was armed with a handgun, approached a Coweta County deputy who was parked in a nearby neighborhood on Meadowbrook Lane in Grantville, GA. The deputy ordered Olson to drop the gun, but Olson refused to comply and fired his gun several times. The deputy returned fire, shooting Olson. Coweta County Fire and EMS were dispatched to the scene. Olson was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
