GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Coweta County
Coweta County, GA (January 9, 2026) – At the request of the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, GBI Agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Coweta County, Georgia. Daniel Olsen, age 39, of Grantville, Georgia, died in the incident. No deputies were injured.
The preliminary information indicates that on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at about 8:15 p.m., a Coweta County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted a traffic stop on an off-road vehicle. The driver, later identified as Olsen, refused to stop, and the deputy chased Olsen to a home on Greenfield Lane in Grantville, Georgia. Olsen ran into the home and locked the door. The Deputy attempted to call Olsen out of the home, but Olsen refused to comply. The deputy, in an attempt to avoid escalating the situation, left the home to take arrest warrants for Olsen.
At about 9:00 p.m. on January 8, 2026, a 911 caller advised that Olsen had left his home with a gun. Shortly afterward, Olsen, who was armed with a handgun, approached a Coweta County deputy who was parked in a nearby neighborhood on Meadowbrook Lane in Grantville, GA. The deputy ordered Olsen to drop the gun, but Olsen refused to comply and fired his gun several times. The deputy returned fire, shooting Olsen. Coweta County Fire and EMS were dispatched to the scene. Olsen was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
