GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in DeKalb County

DeKalb County, GA (December 29, 2025) - At the request of the DeKalb County Police Department, GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in DeKalb County, GA. One man was shot and injured. No officers were injured during this incident.

The preliminary information indicates on December 28, 2025, at about 11:30 p.m., a DeKalb County PD officer was dispatched to Wood Bend Drive in reference to a domestic dispute. Once the officer arrived, they encountered a man in the parking lot that appeared to be unrelated to the domestic disturbance. The officer saw a handgun on the ground near the man, and gave verbal commands for the man to move away from the gun. The officer also told the man to lower himself to the ground in an area away from the gun. The man did not comply with the officer’s commands and approached the officer. The officer fired once, hitting the man.

The man was taken to a local hospital where he remains in stable condition. 

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be given to the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office for review.
