GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Glynn County, GA
Brunswick, Glynn County, GA (September 5, 2025) - At the request of the Glynn County Police Department, GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Brunswick, Glynn County, Georgia. No one was injured in this incident.
The preliminary information indicates that in the early morning of August 30, 2025, Glynn County Police Department patrol officers responded to the Motel 6 located at 3040 Scarlett Street in Brunswick, GA, to conduct a welfare check regarding a possible domestic violence incident. Once at the location, officers encountered David Kevin Griffis, age 58, of Brunswick, GA, who pointed a gun at the officers. Both the responding patrol officers and Griffis exchanged gunfire, but no one was hit. Officers deployed tear gas/pepper spray, and Griffis surrendered. The Glynn County Police Department charged Griffis with four counts of Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, one count of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and one count of Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime.
Griffis was taken to the Glynn County Jail after being medically cleared.
The GBI will conduct an independent investigation into the use of force. Once complete, the case file will be given to the Brunswick District Attorney’s Office for review.
