GBI Arrests One Man in Dublin Homicide Investigation

Dublin, GA (March 10, 2025) - The GBI has arrested and charged Lenton OBryant Jones (a.k.a. Kobe Bryant Jones), age 37, of Dublin, GA, with Malice Murder, two counts of Cruelty to Children in the 1st Degree, one count of Aggravated Assault, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony in connection with the death of Detrenell Michelle Downing, age 31, of Dublin, GA.

On Friday, March 7, 2025, at about 5:50 a.m., the Dublin Police Department requested the GBI to assist with the investigation into a death. At about 5:20 a.m., the Dublin Police Department was dispatched to Hillcrest Apartment Complex located in the 200 block of Hillcrest Drive, Dublin, Laurens County, GA, in reference to a woman being shot. Upon arrival, officers discovered Downing dead from a gunshot wound in the parking lot of the apartment complex. Downing lived at the apartment complex.

The investigation revealed that Jones, Downing’s ex-boyfriend, shot and killed her after he confronted her outside of her apartment in the parking lot.

Jones turned himself in at the Dublin Police Department on March 10, 2025, and was booked into the Laurens County Detention Center.

Downing’s body was taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
