GBI Investigates Shooting Death of 16-year-old Dublin Girl
UPDATE:
On September 15, 2023, Latavious Ramon Walker, age 20, of Dublin, GA, was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault, one count of felony murder, and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony in connection with the death of Shamiruna Coney.
ORIGINAL RELEASE:
Dublin, Georgia (September 7, 2023) – The GBI is investigating the death of Shamiruna Coney, 16, of Dublin, GA. On Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at about 7:50 a.m., the Dublin Police Department requested the GBI to investigate.
The investigation indicates that on September 6, 2023, at about 7:30 a.m., Coney went to a home on Woodlawn Street in Dublin. When she arrived, she was shot by someone inside the home. When police arrived, they found Coney outside of the home suffering from gunshot wounds. Coney was taken to a local hospital where she died.
Agents questioned the shooter and learned that he thought a home invasion was happening and fired shots to protect himself. It was later that the shooter realized the victim was someone he knew.
At this time, police have made no arrests. The GBI investigation is active and ongoing. When the investigation is done, the case will be given to the Dublin District Attorney’s Office for next steps.
