GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Cherokee County

ORIGINAL RELEASE:
Canton, GA (July 30, 2022) - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer involved shooting in Cherokee County, Georgia. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on July 30, 2022. One man was shot and is in critical condition. No law enforcement officers were injured in this incident.
Preliminary information indicates that the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call from a home on Meadowbrook Lane in Woodstock, Georgia around 11:00 a.m. A man, identified as Mark Allen, 67, of Woodstock, Georgia, while violating a Temporary Protective Order, fired his gun at the front door to enter the home. Allen was unsuccessful in his attempt and left the house before deputies responded. Police issued a look out for Allen.
A Cherokee Sheriff’s deputy located Allen parked at the Red Lobster restaurant on Riverstone Parkway in Canton. The deputy approached Allen in his car parked in the restaurant parking lot. Allen was armed with a gun. During the incident, Allen was shot by the deputy. Life saving measures were given to Allen immediately following the shooting. Cherokee Fire responded to the scene and took Allen to an area hospital with critical injuries.
The GBI will conduct an independent investigation and upon completion of the investigation, it will be given to the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit District Attorney for review.
