(Clayton County, GA) - On Sunday, December 13, 2020, the GBI was requested by the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office to investigate an officer involved shooting.

Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 5:35 pm, the Clayton County Police Department and the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office were responding to a shots fired call related to a domestic incident on 7632 Ward Lane, Jonesboro, GA.  A Clayton County Sheriff’s deputy arrived on the scene first and encountered a female, later identified as Twanetta Griffey, age 36, of Stone Mountain, in the 7600 block of Ward Ave, Jonesboro, GA.  During the encounter, Griffey was shot by the deputy.  Griffey was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  A gun was located in close proximity to Griffey.

The deputy was not injured during the incident. 

The Clayton County Police Department is currently investigating a homicide and shooting that occurred a few doors away from the OIS.  Both incidents appear to be related.  All questions about the homicide investigation should be directed to the Clayton County Police Department.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation of the officer involved shooting. Upon completion, it will be submitted to the Clayton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
