Brooks County, GA (October 23, 2020) - The second victim has been identified as Deshaun Lamar Scott, 36, of Cleveland, OH.

Brooks County, GA (October 22, 2020) – On Wednesday, October 21, 2020, Kenny Pruitt, age 36, of Cleveland, OH, was taken into custody and charged with two counts of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of possession of firearm during the commission of a crime, and two counts of possession of firearm by convicted felon.

On Wednesday, October 21, 2020, at approximately 3:28 p.m., Brooks County Sheriff Mike Dewey requested the GBI to investigate two males who had been shot and killed on Emerson Road near Grooverville Road in South Brooks County.  One of the victims has been identified as John Timothy Thompson, age 56, of East Liverpool, Ohio.  The second victim’s identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

The early investigation has revealed that Pruitt and three other men travelled to Quitman, Georgia from the Cleveland, Ohio area on Sunday, October 18, 2020.  One of the victims was traveling to the area to visit family members, and the others accompanied him on the trip. 

Pruitt was arrested without incident and booked into the Brooks County Jail.

The GBI Medical Examiner’s Office is scheduled to perform autopsies of the two victims on Friday, October 23, 2020. 

Agents and Sheriff’s Investigators are still working to determine what events led to the shooting.
