GBI Investigates Shooting in Johnson County

Wrightsville, GA (May 20, 2020) – On Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at approximately 6:06 p.m., the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to 185 Tucker Grove Church Road, Wrightsville, Johnson County, GA, in reference to a female being shot. Johnson County Sheriff’s Office subsequently requested the assistance of the GBI Eastman office. 

Preliminary investigation revealed that Johnquavious Norris, age 19, shot his girlfriend Jayla Washington, age 18, of East Dublin, with a handgun in the bedroom of the residence. Norris resides at the residence where the shooting occurred.    

Washington was airlifted to Navicent Health in Macon and is listed in stable condition. Norris has alleged the shooting to be accidental. 

Norris and Jamar L. Waters, age 20, have both been charged with tampering with evidence and are being housed at the Johnson County Jail. Additional charges may be forthcoming.
