Adel, GA (April 25, 2020) – On Friday, April 24, 2020, the GBI’s Douglas Regional Office received a request from the Cook County Sheriff’s Office to investigate an officer involved shooting.

Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 9:59 p.m., on Friday, April 24, 2020, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to 1991 Boone Road in Adel, Cook County, Georgia, regarding a report of shots fired. The first responding deputy made contact with Roy Joiner, 67. Joiner had a gun and exchanged gunfire with the deputy which resulted Joiner’s death. Deputies had responded to this residence earlier in the evening to a report of Joiner threating people with a knife. A search for Joiner was conducted and arrest warrants were being prepared when the second call was received.

No officers were injured during this incident.
