January 19, 2020 update: A third individual, Justin Malikk Fleming, age 19, of Milledgeville, has turned himself in to Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office on armed robbery charges.

Milledgeville, GA (January 18, 2020) – On Saturday, January 18, 2020, at approximately 5:51 p.m., the GBI Region 6 office was requested by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s office to assist with an Armed Robbery and an Officer Involved Shooting investigation, which occurred at Quick Pantry located at 3043 North Columbia Street in Milledgeville, Baldwin County, Georgia.

On Saturday, January 18, 2020, at approximately 5:39 p.m., a Baldwin County Sheriff’s deputy was traveling to a part-time job in uniform and in his patrol car when he noticed an armed robbery in progress at the Quick Pantry.  The deputy immediately took action.  The clerk ran out of the store when the deputy arrived.  When the armed suspects attempted to run out, the deputy fired his service weapon.  No injures were reported during this incident.  The deputy held the two suspects at gunpoint until responding officers arrived.   

When Baldwin County Sheriff’s deputies and Milledgeville Police Department officers arrived they discovered Benita Sha’ty-rone Kelsey, age 25, and Kemontaye Jashawn Smith, age 20, both of Milledgeville, GA inside the store. 

GBI obtained arrest warrants for Kelsey and Smith for the crime of Armed Robbery.  The investigation is ongoing and more arrest may be pending.
