GBI Arrests Dooly County Employee

(Vienna, GA -12/12/2019) On Wednesday, December 11, 2019, Christie Jo Cape, age 56, was arrested in Dooly County, Georgia.  Cape was charged with Theft by Taking {O.C.G.A. 16-8-2} involving the theft of $500.00 of official Dooly County funds.  Cape turned herself in to the Dooly County Sheriff’s Office where she was processed through the arrest/booking procedure. 

On October 16, 2019, the Dooly County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI’s assistance with a possible theft/embezzlement investigation involving the Dooly County Zoning and Building Safety Office funds.  The criminal investigation revealed that Christie Cape, a 19 year employee of the Dooly County Zoning and Building Safety Office, had unlawfully embezzled the money in September 2019.

The GBI investigation is active and ongoing.  When the investigation has been completed, it will be turned over to the District Attorney’s Office.
