GBI Digital Forensic Investigator 1
Job Summary:
Performs forensic examinations of computer operating systems, assists in investigating criminal activity by retrieving stored data from computers utilized in criminal activities, provides technical assistance and training to other state and local agencies on computer forensic issues, and testifies in court.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conducts forensic examination of electronic devices including computers, mobile devices, and other digital data storage media.
- Uses software and hardware forensic tools to extract, preserve, analyze, and present evidence for further investigations or testing.
- Assists law enforcement in the preparation of search warrants, investigative information, and cases for court purposes.
- Provides on-scene technical support and assistance during the execution of search warrants.
- Provides support in examination and digital investigation techniques for law enforcement and other legal entities.
- Serves as subject matter expert on technical matters relating to digital evidence and testify in court or at hearings as an expert witness in the area of digital forensics.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
- Must be proficient with the use of a computer.
- Mostly sedentary work. Routinely work in an office setting that consists of sitting for prolonged periods at a desk. Assist in the field in various environments.
- Required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; bend, stoop and kneel.
- Occasionally light lifting/or moving boxes or supplies may be required.
- Travel (sometime overnight) is required for court appearance, training, warrant assists, etc..
- Operating a state vehicle is required. The applicant must have a valid Georgia driver’s license.
- Required to work on-call rotation as needed to include overnight.
- Three (3) to four (4) month training period is required. The training is conducted at the GBI Headquarters building for the training period.
- Required to establish residency in your area of assignment or reside within a twenty-five (25) miles radius of your assigned regional boundary for statewide assignments.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer forensics, cybersecurity, computer information systems, digital forensics, information technology or related field from an accredited four-year college or university.
OR
Completion of an undergraduate degree from an accredited four-year college or university AND two years of experience in a law enforcement capacity in digital investigations.
Entry Salary: $63,423.10
