ORIGINAL RELEASE:

Tallapoosa, Haralson County, GA (March 23, 2024) - At the request of the Haralson County Sheriff’s Office, GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Tallapoosa, Georgia. Marcus Andrew Eaddy, age 29, of Lithonia, GA, was injured and is currently in critical condition at a local hospital. No officers were injured in this incident.

The preliminary information indicates on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at about 2:05 a.m. CST, Hoover PD (Alabama) and Vestavia PD (Alabama) responded to a 911 call about a man, later identified as Eaddy, outside shooting an AR style gun. After officers arrived, Eaddy drove away in a dark colored Chrysler with Georgia tags, and officers/deputies began to chase him. The pursuit continued through Alabama onto I-20 East. Several Alabama agencies joined the pursuit. After Alabama law enforcement deployed stop strips, Eaddy’s vehicle stopped on I-20 East just inside of the Georgia line between Exit 3 and Exit 5.  By this point, Haralson County deputies had joined the pursuit.  During the incident, there was an exchange of gunfire between Haralson County and St. Clair County Sheriff’s (Alabama) deputies and Eaddy.  Eaddy was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

Investigators later found a handgun near Eaddy and an Assault Rifle inside of the Chrysler.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once complete, the case file will be given to the Haralson County District Attorney’s Office for review.
