Doraville, GA (January 19, 2023) –  The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Doraville, GA. The Doraville Police Department asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on January 19, 2023. One man was shot and has sustained injuries. No officers were injured during the incident. 

Preliminary information indicates that at around 11:50 a.m., a Doraville Police Department officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a van on 2820 Chamblee Tucker Road in Doraville. The van was known to be driven by Walfre Bautista Miranda, age 41, of Doraville, who had active felony warrants. 

When officers attempted to stop the van, Miranda rammed into a patrol car by reversing into it, then pulled forward. Officers attempted to box Miranda in to prevent him from leaving. Miranda got out of the van with a machete in his hand and advanced towards an officer. He was able to get inside and take control of the patrol car with access to all weapons inside, including a rifle. At that time, officers shot Miranda and he was taken into custody. Miranda was taken to a local hospital where he is being treated for injuries. 

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation of the officer involved shooting. Once complete, the case file will be given to the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office for review.
