Gwinnett County, GA (7/22/2022) – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer involved shooting in Gwinnett County, Georgia. The Gwinnett County Police Department asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on July 22, 2022. One man has died. No officers were injured.

Preliminary information indicates that around 1:20 a.m., a 911 call was placed from 3020 Templeton Lane, Loganville, Gwinnett County, Georgia, about a disagreement between roommates.  The 911 caller stated that his roommate, Leonard Hollingsworth, 63, of Loganville, had fired a gun and was preventing him from leaving the home. When officers responded, Hollingsworth had a firearm in his hand and ran back into the home.  The roommate was able to leave the home.  SWAT officers were called to the home and began negotiating with Hollingsworth for several hours.  At one point, Hollingsworth pointed a firearm at officers.  Two officers fired their guns, hitting Hollingsworth.  Hollingsworth died on scene.  The Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once complete, the case will be given to the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office for review.
