(Atlanta, GA) - On Sunday, August 29, 2021, the GBI was requested by the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) to conduct an officer involved shooting investigation.

Preliminary information indicates that at around 2:42 p.m.,  Atlanta Police Department (APD) officers, Georgia Tech Police Department officers, & Georgia State Patrol troopers responded to a call at the corner of State Street & Home Park, in Atlanta, about a man, later identified as Gray Bell, 40, of Roswell, who was armed with a weapon.  During the incident, Bell attempted to leave the scene, and GSP troopers attempted to prevent him from leaving the scene by boxing him in with their car.  As officers approached Bell, he got out of his car, pulled out a gun and chambered a round.  An APD officer and GSP troopers fired their guns, shooting Bell.  Bell died at a local hospital.

No officers were injured in this incident.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation.  Once complete, the casefile will be provided to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
