Snellville, GA (January 11, 2021) – On Monday, January 11, 2021, the GBI Atlanta Regional Office was requested by the Snellville Police Department to investigate an officer involved shooting.

Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 2:52 a.m., a report of a suspicious person near 2962 Summit Way, Snellville, Gwinnett County, GA was received. Snellville PD officers arrived at this location but the subject was no longer present. The officers located the subject nearby at 1573 Highway 78. The officers made contact and questioned the subject. During the interview, the subject gave officers a false name and date of birth. When officers attempted to place the subject in custody, he pulled away and ran into a wooded area along Highway 78. The officers pursued the subject on foot. During the foot chase, the subject fired a gun at the officers and the officers returned fire. Neither the officers nor the subject were struck or injured. Other responding officers established a perimeter of the area and Gwinnett PD SWAT was activated and assumed responsibility for the search. The subject was located and arrested by Gwinnett PD SWAT at approximately 5:30 a.m. in the wooded area. The subject, identified as Shawn Davis, age 43, of Kentucky, was in possession of a handgun at the time of his arrest.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Upon completion, it will be turned over to the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office for review.
