Norcross, GA (April 7, 2020) – On Tuesday, April 7, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) to investigate an officer involved shooting.

Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 1:25 a.m., troopers attempted to stop a vehicle driving with no headlights.  The vehicle failed to stop and led troopers to a dead-end near the 1600 block of Indian Brook Way in Norcross.  The driver, a 16-year-old male, stopped and when the trooper exited his patrol vehicle, the driver backed-up towards the trooper.  The trooper fired his weapon during the incident, striking the driver.  A passenger was in the vehicle and ran from the scene.  He has not been apprehended at this time. The driver was taken to Northside Hospital Gwinnett where he was treated for a non-life threatening injury.  The vehicle was later found to be stolen in Gwinnett County.

No troopers were injured during the incident.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation.  Once completed, it will be turned over to the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office for review.
