GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Conyers
Conyers, GA (February 12, 2020) – On Tuesday, February 11, 2020, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Conyers Police Department to investigate an officer involved shooting.
Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 6:45 p.m., a stolen vehicle was located traveling along Iris Dr. in Conyers. Two Conyers PD patrol units followed the stolen vehicle as it pulled into and stopped in a hotel parking lot located in the 1400 block of Old McDonough Highway. As the two officers approached, the vehicle backed up and struck a patrol vehicle. During the incident, one of the officers fired at the vehicle. The vehicle fled the scene. Conyers PD officers pursued the vehicle and were assisted by the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office. The stolen vehicle was chased into DeKalb County, but officers lost sight of the vehicle when it turned to go eastbound on I-20 at Evans Mill Road.
No officers were injured during the incident.
The GBI will conduct an independent investigation and once complete will be turned over to the Rockdale County District Attorney’s Office for review.
