Conyers, GA (November 8, 2019) – On Thursday, November 7, 2019, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the GBI Atlanta Regional Office was requested by the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) to conduct an officer involved shooting investigation.

Preliminary information indicates that earlier the same day, witnesses stated that Gerald Newton Allen, 66, shot and killed Robbie Daniel and wounded another individual at 1801 Green Street, Conyers, Rockdale County, GA. Allen retreated to his residence, 1785 Spring Street, a short distance from the shooting incident, and barricaded himself. The RCSO SWAT team, supported by the Conyers Police Department, responded to 1785 Spring Street and attempted to negotiate a peaceful resolution for numerous hours. At approximately 7:31 p.m., the RCSO SWAT team entered the residence and attempted to take Allen into custody. At that time, Allen shot at RCSO SWAT deputes, wounding two deputies. Deputies returned fire, fatally wounding Allen. Numerous firearms were located inside the residence. Officers were transported to local hospitals where they were treated and released.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation of the officer involved shooting. Once complete, it will be turned over to the Rockdale County District Attorney’s Office for review. Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office CID is investigating the double shooting that resulted in the death of Robbie Daniel and the injury of the second individual.
