Sandy Springs, GA (May 31, 2018) – On Thursday, May 31, 2018, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was requested by the Sandy Springs Police Department to investigate an officer involved shooting.

Preliminary information from Sandy Springs authorities indicates that at approximately 1:23 p.m., Sandy Springs PD responded to a 911 call of a potential burglary at the Modera by Mill Creek apartments, 6125 Roswell Road, Sandy Springs, GA.  Officers arrived at the location and made contact with three individuals. Two were detained and the third fled on foot.  Officers chased the subject to the area of 6060 Roswell Road, Sandy Springs.  During the chase, the subject was observed with a handgun and at some point discharged the handgun.

Officers cornered the subject in the area of 6060 Roswell Road and a standoff occurred.  Sandy Springs PD initiated the multi jurisdiction SWAT team.  They arrived and attempted to negotiate with the subject.  After over an hour of speaking with the subject, the officers moved in to attempt an arrest.  The subject attempted to flee with the handgun and sustained multiple gunshot wounds by officers.  The subject was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition.

No officers were injured during this incident.  Sandy Springs PD is handling the warrants associated with the incident.

At this time, the subject’s name is not being released as he is a juvenile.     

The GBI will continue its independent investigation.  Once complete, it will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
