Milledgeville, GA – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred at Navicent Hospital when a patient attempted to take an officer’s weapon.

Preliminary information from law enforcement and the hospital indicates that on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at approximately 10:47 a.m., the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call at Milledgeville Manor apartments concerning a subject expressing suicidal thoughts.  Deputies arrived on scene as well as emergency medical services (EMS).  The subject agreed to be transported to the Navicent Hospital in Milledgeville by ambulance.

Upon arrival at the hospital, the subject became combative with two officers with the Navicent Health Police Department as well as medical personnel. During the struggle, the subject was subdued with a Taser and restrained.  The subject calmed down and became cooperative and the restraints were removed.  However, the subject later became combative again and during the incident attempted to disarm one of the police officers.  Officers attempts to tase the subject was unsuccessful. The subject was shot by a police officer during the struggle. No officers or hospital staff were injured.

The subject was transported to the Navicent Hospital in Macon, GA where he was treated and remains there in critical condition.

When completed, the case will be turned over to the Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
