GBI Investigates Officer Involved Use of Force Incident in McDonough, GA
McDonough, Georgia – On Saturday, November 12, 2016, at approximately 11:40 PM, the McDonough Police Department (MPD) requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) to investigate an officer involved use of force incident occurring in McDonough, Georgia.
Preliminary information provided by McDonough authorities indicates that at approximately 11:00 PM, officers responded to a 911 call indicating that there was a domestic disturbance/robbery incident involving two guests of the Economy Inn on Old Industrial Boulevard, McDonough, GA. The initial investigation indicates that one guest pushed his way into another guest’s room and attempted a robbery by force. Officers arrived and encountered the subject identified as Jackie Sanders Weems Jr., age 44, who was non-compliant, resistant, and also fought with officers. Weems was tasered before he was taken into custody. After being taken into custody and still on scene, Weems became unresponsive. Officers rendered aid prior to an ambulance arriving.
Weems was transported to Piedmont Henry Hospital where he was pronounced dead in the early morning hours of Sunday, November 13, 2016.
No officers were injured during this incident.
The GBI will continue its independent investigation to determine what occurred during the incident. When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Henry County District Attorney's Office for review
