GBI Investigates Officer Involved Use of Force Incident in Fulton County, GA
Fulton County, Georgia – On Wednesday, November 2, 2016, the Fulton County Police Department requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) to investigate an officer involved use of force incident occurring in Fulton County, Georgia.
Preliminary information provided by Fulton County authorities indicates that at approximately 11:00 AM, officers responded to a 911 call indicating that there was a suspicious vehicle parked in the parking lot of the US Beauty Mart off Old National Highway. Responding officers at the scene witnessed a male inside the vehicle. Officers requested that the individual exit the vehicle at which time the individual attempted to flee the area, striking multiple vehicles to include a police vehicle. At that time, multiple officers discharged their weapons. The individual continued to flee until he was later apprehended.
The individual was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where it was discovered that he was not shot but did receive lacerations from broken glass. He is currently being treated for his injuries.
No officers were injured during this incident.
The GBI will continue its independent investigation to determine what occurred during the incident. When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney's Office for review.
