Atlanta, Georgia – On Thursday, October 13, 2016, at approximately 4:30 AM, the Atlanta Police Department (APD) requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) to investigate an officer involved shooting.  The incident occurred on Tilden Street in Atlanta, Georgia.

Preliminary information provided by Atlanta authorities indicates that APD was contacted by a concerned citizen who observed an individual walking down Tilden Street attempting to gain access to vehicles along the street.  Officers arrived on the scene and located an individual crouched down near a vehicle parked in a driveway.  The officers requested the subject to step out with his hands up.  At that time, the subject displayed a firearm and fired shots in the direction of the officers.  One of the officers returned fire, striking the subject.  The subject fled a short distance before being apprehended. 

The subject was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he is being treated for his injuries and remains in stable condition.  No officers were shot during this incident.

A weapon was recovered at the scene of the incident.  

The GBI will continue its independent investigation to determine what occurred during the incident.  When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney's Office for review.
