Statesboro, GA – On Tuesday, October 4, 2016, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was requested by the Statesboro Police Department to investigate an officer involved shooting. 

Preliminary information from Statesboro authorities indicates that on Tuesday, October 4, 2016, at approximately 1:08 a.m., officers with the Statesboro Police Department responded to 1699 Statesboro Place Circle regarding an armed robbery/home invasion.  It was reported that three suspects entered a residence and held the victims at gunpoint.

Officers searched for and arrested one of the suspects near the scene. A second suspect was located but fled.  Officers’ deployed a Taser unsuccessfully during the attempt to arrest him.

An officer located the second suspect at the rear of another residence in the area.  The officer reported that the second suspect was in possession of a firearm and shots were fired during the encounter.  The second suspect suffered a fatal gunshot wound.

GBI agents are presently interviewing witnesses and processing the scene.  An autopsy will be performed later today at the GBI Crime Lab in Savannah.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation to determine what occurred during the incident.  When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the District Attorney's Office for review.
