Murray County, GA –  On Friday, May 20, 2016, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) arrested and charged Bagley Middle School Teacher Shari Clanton, age 55, with one count of simple battery for allegedly hitting a special needs student at the Middle School.

On Tuesday, May 3, 2016, the GBI was requested by the Murray County Sheriff’s Office to investigate this incident.  The incident reportedly occurred on May 2nd and was captured on the school’s video.  The GBI investigation resulted in an arrest warrant for Clanton.

Clanton had been employed with Bagley Middle School for approximately 6 years.

The school’s video will not be released in this open and active investigation.

Clanton turned herself in to the Murray County Sheriff’s Office without incident and was released on a preset bond.  Once the investigation is completed, it will be turned over to the DA’s Office for prosecution.
