GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting involving Department of Community Supervision Officers
Kennesaw, GA – On Wednesday, April 6, 2016, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was requested by the Georgia Department of Community Supervision (DCS) to investigate an officer involved shooting involving two DCS officers in Kennesaw, Georgia.
On the above date at approximately 6:30 p.m., DCS Officers were at 1601 Climbing Rose Court, Kennesaw, Georgia to serve a probation violation arrest warrant for Jeffery Roy Moffatt, age 23. Moffatt’s parents were aware of the outstanding warrant and contacted DCS reporting that Moffatt was behaving erratically.
Preliminary information indicates that during the arrest, an altercation ensued and Moffatt was shot multiple times by two DCS Officers. Medical aid was provided on scene. Additionally, a handgun was recovered from the shooting scene.
Moffatt was transported to Kennestone Hospital where he is being treated and is listed in serious condition. The DCS officers were not injured during the incident.
The GBI will conduct an independent investigation to determine what occurred during the incident. When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office for any action they deem appropriate.
