Former Athens-Clarke County Police Officer Arrested
Athens, GA - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested a former Athens-Clarke County police officer on Friday, November 13, 2015. Christopher Miller, 26, of Athens, has been charged with Violation of Oath by a Public Officer, a felony, and one count of misdemeanor Theft by Taking.
The GBI began the case on September 8, 2015, after Athens-Clarke County Police Chief Scott Freeman asked the GBI to investigate an allegation that Miller had taken money from a criminal trespass suspect he had arrested. This incident occurred on August 14, 2015 off Zebulon Drive in Athens.
Miller resigned from the police department prior to the conclusion of the investigation. Miller surrendered himself to the Clarke County Jail without incident. The investigation remains open and on-going.
