GBI Investigating MARTA Police Officer Involved Shooting
Atlanta, GA – On October 3, 2015 at approximately 7:25 AM, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called to investigate a shooting incident involving a MARTA police officer near the Ashby Street Station at 65 Joseph E. Lowery, Blvd.
Preliminary information indicates at approximately 6:30 AM, a MARTA police officer encountered an individual matching the description of a person the Atlanta Police Department had been looking for regarding a possible robbery with shots fired.
The MARTA police officer reportedly approached the individual who ran from the scene and pointed a gun at the officer at which point the officer shot at the subject. The individual continued to flee and was not apprehended. It is unknown if the individual was struck by the officer's shots. The individual remains at large and is being sought by Atlanta and MARTA Police who can be contacted in reference to identifying the subject.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will conduct an investigation to determine what occurred during the incident. When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the District Attorney’s Office for any action they deem appropriate.
