Lumpkin, GA – On Tuesday, July 14, 2015, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was requested by the Stewart County Sheriff’s Office to assist in a homicide investigation.  At 10:15 am, sheriff’s deputies responded to 340 Hall Road Lumpkin, Georgia, where the resident, Richard Byrd, 69, was found deceased, the victim of an apparent homicide.   The investigation is ongoing, with GBI agents and deputies conducting interviews and processing evidence in connection with the crime.  An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow at the GBI crime lab in Decatur.
